🌬 Introduction

WTHM is a collaboration between the Mechanical Engineering department and the Electrical & Computer Engineering department of UMass Lowell.

Basic WTHM System Model
Basic WTHM Sensor Node System Model

This interdiciplinary team designs acoustic monitoring systems of wind turbine blades to assess damage in real time. The system contains acoustic embedded sensors to obtain the data and control software to store the data and further transfer it for acoustic analysis and detection of blade faults. The data in the cloud is also transfered to a web-based dashboard to visualize the data collected from the sensors.

🧭 Deployment Sites

Each deployment featured an external sensor node at the base of the turbine an 2 to 3 internal sensors per blade depending on blade size.
